A site I created as my daughter has Cerebral Palsy and I found it very difficult to find information when having to deal with local Schools, County, State and Federal agencies and get the information I required. My hope is to have a comprehensive list of informational and advocacy sites listed and give people with disabilities a place to vent and help each other through their stories and the Forums and Chat pages.

For those of you who are considering purchasing any of the digital packages I offer or others do, there are a few simple things you should know. Now most of you will already know these and if you do then just realize there are a lot of people who don't and this information can be quite helpful to some.

First I'd like to say that having resell rights in most cases, and you need to read the licensing agreement to be sure( the only restriction I've come across is your not being able to give it away for free unless it is as a bonus to another sale), but in most cases allows you to charge whatever you want for your product. In order to change the value you charge you must open the "processors" php file. Find the value and change it to whatever you want to sell for. If you decide to change the price after you have already uploaded it you need to upload everything with the command to overwrite everything after you have made the changes or manually go into your control panel on your web host and change the processors file there. Also if you are in Europe or elsewhere you may want to be paid in Euro's or Pounds or whatever and you need to change the value from USD to whatever your country denomination is. Or you can leave it USD and have Paypal convert it when you request your money. (easiest)

Most everything is in a zip format of some type. You will need to download the item to your computer and then unzip it. If you do not have an unzip program there are quite a few on the web that are free to use on a trial basis but here is one that is not only free but fully functional with no trial. Later when you create your own content to sell you can use it to zip the contents in a folder for download from your site.

OK. Once you download the file create a new folder on your desktop and name it something you will recognize. I usually use the zip folder name or a portion of it. Now open the zip folder and select 'extract all to' and send everything to the folder you created. Now you can view the contents.

Most everything is in folders and you need to 'drill down' through the folders to find everything. Along the way you will most likely encounter new zip files and just do the same as you did previously by creating a new folder in the folder you are in and name it something and extract the zip to the new folder. You may have to do this several times in order to have access to everything.

If you ever plan on reselling anything do not delete the zip files as if you do you will have to re-zip them. Or the PDF files as Adobe charges something like $700.00 for their fully functional PDF word processor.

BUT. Here is a fully functional word processor that tops Microsoft Word and has most everything MS OFFICE has and then some. The names are changed, they're not PowerPoint and Excel and Access and the rest but they do the same thing and most often more. AND one of the things this little baby does that Word doesn't is export in PDF format. Yes that is right. You can create a doc in this app and export it in PDF which is the industry standard and anyone with a free copy of Adobe Acrobat reader can open the files. Don't limit your market to only those who have MS WORD or dumb it down to simple .txt format, but let the entire world be able to get whatever you write in a format they can access. You can also export in xhtml but the really cool thing here is everything MS Office can do this can do too and most often better and it is easy to transfer files between the two so you can download it and play with it while you still use Word until you are comfortable enough to move over. I use both depending on what I want to do. It is hard to give up Word after almost 10 years but the day is drawing near.

Now if you  have an .exe file as in sitewizard just install it like any other program for your own use but keep the zip file so you can resell it.

Now a couple of things as to resale. If you plan to resell the product open the php files and look for email addresses. If you bought from me, mine will be there or the zip you downloaded was the original I got in which case the emails will be those that came with the digital file. You will want to change these to your own Yahoo email or website email. Do not use your personal email. You do this so that you capture the address of the customer and not the person who sold it to you. If you leave my email I will be notified when a purchase is made. If I were of a mind I could then contact the buyer and offer them similar stuff. You do not want that to happen. You are telling people their email is safe and in order for you to live up to that you need to make sure that email goes to no one but you.

If you plan to resell, create a premier account at Paypal so you can accept credit cards. Take the graphic of the credit cards off my site or Paypal's so people can see what cards are accepted and then place a 'click here to purchase' with a link to Paypal's pay page. In the php you will find my Paypal pay address or the original that the program came with. Either way, Replace it with your own Paypal address or the original company or I am going to get paid for your sale. Though I will know who sent it I won't have a clue as to who it belongs to, so yes you will not get paid. 

Ok that is about all I'm going to say of this. Hopefully by the time you get around to getting a web host and start selling on your own you will have a basic understanding of ftp and some html and most of your questions of websites and downloading can be answered by your webhost. 

I suppose there is one other thing you should know. Most who get into resale of digital media just take the download, place it on a web of their own and change nothing but the email and pay to lines. If you want to differentiate yourself from the thousands of identical sites out there to achieve a higher page rank you need to add some content of your own. If there are a thousand sites all selling the same thing with the same webpage then the search engines are going to place you at the bottom of the heap. If you want to rise above the rest you need to place some content in there that is different and make sure you place a description and keywords in the meta tags that will reflect some of those changes.

You'll probably find what I have said here of more value than what you will pay for in the digital media I offer for sale. But each of us has our knowledge and lack thereof and though some may find some information skimpy or rehashing what they already knew others will find it very insightful. If you are looking to build an affiliate market then you can never have enough sources. In the case of digital products offered for sale we generally have the actual product on our web or in a folder and can guarantee delivery but bonuses are most often through another and if they move their site or break the link or go out of business we have no control. Also We do not provide support for digital products. Some may still be supported by the manufacturer but we assume no responsibility for any product. Keep this in mind whenever you purchase digital resale products whether from us or others. Most often they have been placed as a resell product because the company that invented the product has either folded or has moved on to other products. Some products are made specifically for the resale market but even these are often not supported. Caveat Emptor. Let the buyer beware.

 

OK. Not my best sales pitch, but it is honest. More than those other bozos will tell you. All the products I sell directly are worth what we ask as we have in most cases cut the price significantly to ensure they are. Your ability to use the digital products to achieve whatever goal you have is not guaranteed.

I’d like to apologize for the way the site is set up. I know it is not so easy to navigate as others might be. And is most definitely harder on the eyes. But the old adage “All that Glitters is Not Gold” holds true when it comes to websites. I have found several that look snazzy and make me drool but when I look at the content I find there is little to none. They are just fronts for links pages. You click on these links and make the site owner money. But you have lost time and were in effect hoodwinked by these flashy pages. Your click through has made the site owner money but you are still searching for information. I place ads on my sites but I also place relevant content so that you may not have to click through. The ads make me money but it is the content you are interested in. If I serve it up rather ‘Plain Jane’ isn’t it better to get what your looking for than be entertained or worse have to click through a links site with no content?

I guess we all have differing opinions on what makes a site worthwhile. For some it may be entertainment or a flashy look. For others they may not mind having been hoodwinked into a links only site to make the site owner money. Personally I would rather a content rich site where I might find useful information and if I choose to leave the page through an advertisement ( that may make the site owner some money) it is my choice, not one I was forced to make. Often when I hit a links only site I just back out rather than click through, why should I make a person money for having tricked me? Though there may be times when it is links that I am looking for. Links to information I can use. Though if this is the case the links (most often) are to websites that are not compensated, such as my links to disability pages on http://www.cpfsn.org . Sure there are some ads but most links are to pages that hold information that the user is looking for and I am in no way compensated for placing these links nor do I ask for a link exchange for providing them.

As to the look of my sites:

1st.
I do not know CSS and do all my sites in plain old html which is laborious and time consuming, and though I could easily make them fancy like those who have buttons, special effects, scripts and flash pages these are time consuming and take more time to load which makes them nice for those on broadband but dialup users are left waiting for page loads. The less graphics, effects and scripts, the faster the load time.

2nd.
Search engines categorize by what they read on the site. Typically they read the text as it appears in the html. I build my pages with tables, having a left nav-bar, a center content section and a right advertising section. Search engines therefore read the left nav-bar first. If all they see is links and the text of these links are to pages with different content they do not categorize the page correctly or not at all. In order for the Search to know what the page is about I have to place a couple lines of text about the page in the left nav-bar, at the beginning of the table.

3rd.

I place text in the links section so that you the user can know where the link may take you. It avoids your having to click links to pages you have no interest in, but it also clutters the links section and makes it more drawn out than it needs to be. I tried having a just links left-nav bar with buttons some years back and found it clean and neat but also found in my stats that many pages saw views but that few stayed on them long. I assumed that they had found pages that were not of interest and moved on. Since implementing a link and text format I find less page views but a longer stay on a page as the user is finding the information they are seeking faster. Some links do not require text as the link itself is pretty self-explanatory. 

4th .

People want ‘instant gratification’ that is to say they want what they are looking for handed to them on a silver platter. They do not want to have to read much or wade through a lot of information that has no bearing on what they are looking for. I have two choices. Either make a short simple page on every single subject and satisfy the general user who wants instant gratification, or place several content related articles on single pages and let the reader have to read a bit of text to find that pearl they are looking for. Well In some cases I have done the former and in some the latter. Why? Well for some subjects they are best served alone. They express an opinion or some content that should not be blended with any other such as your stories, comments, or tips. However other pages can and should be blended as they have interlacing content such as the IEP, 504plan, and IDEA 2004 on www.CPFSN.org . I do separate out the actual programs to some extent but I also combine so that a reader may see the way these programs interact.

So in closing I hope you will forgive the mess and I hope you have found information and/or links to pages that have been of help.

Remember to follow the ‘GoldenRule’ and (life, fate, karma, God) may just reward you with a bit more happy days than sad ones.
